Cragside Energy Limited (CEL) is a specialist renewable development platform focussing on grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Schemes (“BESS”) and renewable energy projects in Great Britain. It is lead by experts in renewable energy project development and investment. Our objective is to play a key role in enabling the UK to decarbonise in an efficient, cost-effective and reliable manner.
The UK has made huge strides in decarbonising the power sector over the past decade, illustrated by a new record wind power generation of 17.2GW in December 2020 (National Grid, ESO). Renewable power generation will continue to play a critical role in the commitment towards net zero emissions through to 2050, firmly emphasised by the Government’s target of 40GW of offshore wind deployment by 2030. With demonstrable political support for other technologies such as onshore wind and solar, the transformation and investment in the sector is set to continue.
Whilst further investment in renewable energy technology accelerates the UK’s path to net zero, the wide-spread deployment also creates growing challenges in terms of network stability and balancing of supply and demand. As the generation mix swings from conventional thermal plants to renewables, the role of flexible technology becomes ever more important. Technology such as energy storage will play a pivotal role in replacing physical inertia, balancing supply and demand, and maintaining a stable, resilient and cost-effective network as we accelerate this transition. Cragside specialises in developing projects of this nature.

We typically seek land parcels of between 0.5 acres and 10 acres for Battery Energy Storage Schemes (BESS) or 50+ acres for renewable energy deployment. Our installations are located in proximity to a suitable points of electrical connection on the local distribution or national transmission network. We can quickly analyse the suitability of land as part of the initial phase of engagement.
